So not many people know about what Italians ACTUALLY drink. We always think of Vino from Tuscan vineyards, but in reality, that's only half the picture. Traditional Italians still love their Vino, but when you visit Italian grandmothers, they'll serve you limoncello!
It's not your typical grandmother's drink actually! It's basically vodka, infused with lemon zest for an extended amount of time, then you take out the lemon zest and stir in lots of sugar! It's considered a dessert drink, because the shock of lemon helps you to digest all that pasta you just ate!
It's harder to find in the US, and not many people are up for limoncello by itself. That's why I love to mix it with prosecco! I found this recipe on Pinterest. Try it out the next time you find limoncello in the stores!
- 3 cups prosecco, chilled
- 1 cup limoncello liqueur, chilled
- 1 cup frozen raspberries
- 6 sprigs fresh mint
- In a large pitcher, whisk together prosecco and limoncello.
- Serve over raspberries, garnished with mint, if desired.
