This winter, why escape the cold when you can play in it?!
Heading to the mountains is perfect for everyone, whether you're looking for a quiet cabin escape, sitting by the fire with a good book, or a fast-paced adventure, taking on the ski slopes.
These destinations have it all and are my go-to's for a snowy winter vacation!
In terms of winter wonderland status, few destinations can compare to Aspen. This scenic mountain town is straight out of a snow globe!! There are four premier ski areas nearby that cater to skiers of all levels. But with high-end shopping, fascinating museums, funky galleries and fun festivals, it truly has something for everyone. No matter how you choose to spend your time here, it will be a vacation you'll never forget.
Nothing is more magical than December in Breckenridge, when the mountain is decked out in twinkling lights. You can practically see it from the plane! Situated about 80 miles southwest of downtown Denver, Breckenridge offers skiers nearly 3,000 acres of skiable terrain spread across 187 trails.
Park City, UT
Sandwiched between two premier resorts, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, Park City sits in the shadow of the rugged Wasatch Mountain Range and has a lot to brag about. It was the host of the 2002 Winter Olympics and is still a major training facility for winter athletes, including the United States Ski Team. If it's good enough for the US Ski Team, then it's good enough for me!
Jackson Hole, WY
When planning an opulent getaway, many people don't give think about Wyoming. But I say: Think again!! Sandwiched between Grand Teton National Park and miles of national forest in every other direction, the Jackson Hole valley has remained relatively isolated from the burgeoning travel industry. But recently, it's been the hot new place to go. The beauty and vastness of the Jackson Hole region has caught the attention of Hollywood celebs like Harrison Ford and politicos like former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Although it may not be one of Vermont's largest ski towns, Jeffersonville is one of my favorites because it is home to the best ski spot for kids that I've ever visited - Smugglers' Notch. Its abundance of family-friendly activities has earned it the title of #1 Kid-Friendly Resort in the East by readers of SKI Magazine. And it lives up to it's title with bonfires every night, ski classes for kids, and an indoor FunZone and pool.
