My Self-Development Reading List

One thing I always want to be is a learner. I am constantly learning from my mentors, my peers, my friends, my little girls, and from YOU!!

And when I get the chance - like on long plane rides or business trips - I love to take it as an opportunity to sit down and actually read! My favorite thing to do is to listen to the wisdom of other people!!! So here is my summer reading list on becoming a better business woman, entrepreneur, and leader. Let me know what you think!!

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change – Stephen. R. Covey

Covey shares seven habits you should adopt to become truly effective in reaching your goals. But it is about much more than just becoming more effective!! It is about going through a life-changing shift to become a person who not only seeks the best in herself but also in the people around her! Let's all strive to be like that!! :-)

How to Win Friends & Influence People – Dale Carnegie

First off, meeting new people is one of my FAVORITE things! When I travel, I am always looking to start a conversation, to listen to others, and to soak up their stories!!!

I've heard this book contains a treasure chest full of timeless wisdom. It shows what we all intuitively know: if you are doing business of any kind, you need to make it about the other person! I mean OF COURSE! Everybody wants to feel appreciated, and rightfully so! If we all made a small effort to make someone’s day, then we could make the world so much better!

Thinking, Fast and Slow – Daniel Kahneman

Nobel prize winner Daniel Kahneman is the founder of behavioral economics – the way our psychology affects our decisions – and he explains in simple prose how our thinking is divided in two systems: one fast and one slow. Both play a large role in our lives, and Kahneman explores how to make sound judgments, and use the best of both systems. I CAN'T WAIT to learn more about this!!

Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes into Stepping Stones for Success – John C. Maxwell

OK, let's get real for a second...starting a business is not easy, and I have failed plenty of times. BUT, I got back up, and kept moving forward!! That's the MOST IMPORTANT lesson you need to learn. At one time or another, we will all fail. What matters most is how you deal with it once you do. Will you give up? Or will you use it as a stepping stone for success? It's up to you!!

Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead – Brené Brown

I always try to be vulnerable with you guys - to share my story, my joys, my hardships, and everything in between!! Brené Brown’s breaks down our idea of vulnerability and shows us how vulnerability is not a weakness, but a P O W E R to be tapped. From that place of vulnerability comes a sense of worthiness, and girl, you are W O R T H Y. It's that tender spot in our hearts that helps us connect with each other and develop one of the greatest traits of all...compassion.

Have you read any of these?! Tell me your thoughts and other book suggestions in the comments below! I can't wait to hear!!
