My Monday Morning Routine

Monday mornings can be overwhelming for a lot of people, but to me, they are my favorite time of the week!!!

That little bit of time before work starts sets the stage for the rest of my week, so I want to make sure it's as calm, productive, and life-giving as possible! I want to make sure it motivates me, lifts me up, and challenges me to be the best me I can be!

 

Monday mornings are my wake up call for the week, and they should be yours too!! So, here is my Monday morning routine!

 

 

1.  Wake Up Early

I always try to wake up at least an hour before my girls do, which means usually opening my eyes at 5:30 or 6:00 AM. I know that sounds early, but since our daytime schedules are so busy, I want to give my kids the attention they need before they head off to school. That means, however, that any "me time" I want has to come before that! The quiet of these early morning hours is where I've found so much peace and inspiration, even if it's in a simple cup of coffee!

 

2.  Answer Only Urgent Emails

When I first wake up, I get a cup of coffee, and then I open up my email. I know that's not typical (and sometimes frowned upon...whoops!) practice for most people, but there are just some things in my business that need immediate attention, and I have to tend to those! BUT, this time also takes incredible discipline...it would be easy to get lost in the slew of emails that are not urgent, and before I know it, my morning would be gone. So this time is only for the most important emails!! The rest can wait until the work day starts!

 

3.  Wake Up My Mind

Next, I wake up my mind. This looks different every day - sometimes it's through reading, sometimes it's through meditating, and other times it's through just sitting quietly on my back porch and petting my dog. But this is time for me to not think about anything besides the book in my lap and coffee in my hand, and it is joyous.

 

4.  Wake Up My Body

Then, I take my dog on a walk. If you know Texas, you know it gets hot hot hot during the day! So, if I can get a little exercise in before the heat comes, then it's the perfect way to wake me up and get those endorphins flowing!!

 

5.  Spend Time With My Girls

After all of that, it's usually time for my girls to wake up. When I am in town, we always have breakfast together in the mornings. It's my time to focus on just them before the days demands start rolling in. We talk, we laugh, and we enjoy the morning all together, and it's my most cherished time! 

 

6.  Take on the Day!

Finally, it's time. It's time to take on the work day. But now, I'm ready!! My mind, body, and soul are all alive, and I'm ready to take on the week head first! 

Of course, this isn't the only routine there is, so find what works for you! And then stick to it! Habits form from consistency, so commit to a schedule, and I promise that it will become a routine and, eventually, a necessity!
